I was thinking about love today. The kind that stays when there’s nothing in it for you. It just holds.
You’ve felt it before, maybe holding a stranger’s crying baby on a flight, maybe sitting next to a friend in the hospital, saying nothing. That’s the kind I mean.
It doesn’t care who’s “you” and who’s “me.” It shrinks the distance between people who’ve never met. It’s what makes the world feel softer, even for a second. This is the thread that keeps us tethered.

Bare Hearts

Love is the way your voice changes
when you say their name.
The way your shoulders drop
when you know you’re safe.

Love doesn’t hand you a bill or ask for receipts,
it just wants you to breathe easy.

Sometimes it’s cracked voices,
the wrong word at the exact wrong moments.
Sometimes it’s so quiet
you don’t notice it until it’s gone.

Love closes the space between us
until I look in your eyes
and forget
which one of us is looking.

It lets you be seen
when your skin wants to vanish.

Bare hearts.
Just there.
Staying.
